CALLED OUT

In Greek the word for church is ekklesia which literally means “the called OUT ones”. As a community of believers we have been “called out” for a purpose, for a mission. The apostle Peter said “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you OUT of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9-10)

 OUTWARD AS OPPOSED TO INWARD

Our desire is to truly be “others-focused”. Jesus has not called us to be a private club of sorts disconnected from this dying world; rather, he has called us to “go into all the world and preach the gospel”. Jesus did not save us so that we can just GO to a church; rather, he saved us so that we can BE the Church with a capitol “C”. If we are to be the Church life takes on a whole new dimension for us as believers. There are lonely, hurting, broken, and desperate people who are yearning for acceptance, love, healing, and purpose. We must open our eyes, open our hearts, open our minds and live our faith “outwardly”. Jesus has called us to be the Church by living our faith outside the walls of a church.
